"Give it up for" Acrylic On Canvas with Frame
This piece tackles scripture with in the bible, Exodus 31 detailing God commanding Moses to build a dwelling place of worship that connects God with his believers. This painting depicts essentially the first artists of the bible “Bezalel and Oholiab,” who were chosen by God, receiving the design instructions from Moses to build The Tabernacle.
Within the painting, it depicts Oholiab on the far right, Moses in the middle, and Bezalel to the left. The youngish character in the back is named "Kenan." Kenan is a part of my messaging that acts as my self portrait. In this painting he serves as student working under bezalel and Oholiab. It is a metaphor as a reference of being a descendant of the first known artists of the bible.
This is my thank you letter to God, for my hands are gifts from him and I just think that sometimes people attribute knowingly or unknowingly their talent to self and pure will. I wanted this to be a call to action for all creatives, not just fine artists and challenge each other to really look at whatever unique talent you possess to something other than ourselves. I’m amazed at the calling that people have and often wonder how they attribute such gifts. I think for myself that if I attributed this unique skill that has followed me my entire life to “just” me that would make me feel quite arrogant and ungrateful.
